| Clouds... |
The home I grew up in, San Mateo, was right next to Highway 101, right below the corridor where planes flew in and out of San Francisco International Airport, and just a few blocks away from the train station. It was a very small, modest home, where small industrial businesses lined the freeway side of the block. It can be a very noisy, dull, or boring place to grow up. I spent many long summers with lots of time on my hands. There were no children around to play with most of the time...(maybe an occasional family with kids rented next door, but just briefly.)
My favorite pastime was reading, and lying in the backyard grass, looking up at the sky. I was fascinated by how the clouds moved majestically across the sky, seemingly still, yet always evolving. I would see images of animals, people, faces and expressions. The clouds took an infinite number of forms--feathery, pillar-like, fluffy, streaky...I became aware of a Greater Presence, a Great Artist who created these skillful, never-ending masterpieces with color, form, and beauty. The colors and nuances were also fascinatingly varied, and never-repeating. So with this pastime, I was never bored.
Today, many of my friends have expressed the same fascination and awe of clouds. Whether in a sunrise or sunset, or just traveling by car and gazing out the window, "simple" clouds are awesome!
Here is an insight from the Bible..
Here is an insight from the Bible..
"For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans. 1:20
For you, maybe clouds do not cause you to take your breath away, or pause. But think of those times, when natural beauty has captivated you. Even Corrie ten Boom, in her book, The Hiding Place, wrote that while being imprisoned in a bleak, stripped, and horrific Nazi prison camp, heard the sound of a lark, which uplifted and encouraged her heart and gave her hope in Christ.
I was just a small kid, maybe 4 or 5, when I first became fascinated with clouds. I knew nothing about God, or Jesus. I was blissfully unaware of the troubles of the world around me. The world was just recovering from the effects of World War II. It was just before the Cold War era. I was also unaware that I was "godless" and ignorant of Jesus. Unaware, that like everybody else who is human, I was a sinner, capable of hurting others and myself with a skewed perspective of humanity, with a indifference and lack of understanding of the only and only God, and his Son - our Lord, and the powers of the Holy Spirit.
Yet, God chose to reveal Himself in these glorious clouds. He made me pause and stop and wonder. These initial experiences left a "tattoo" on my heart that even today, does not fail to impress!
“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—
that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.”
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.” Romans 1:11-12 NIV
